Church Choir

BRIEF HISTORY OF FREEMAN METHODIST CHURCH CHOIR

Freeman Methodist Church Choir was formed in the early sixties with about fifteen (15) members, nine (9) males and six (6) females. Its first choirmaster/organist was Mr. J.K Duntu of blessed memory.

Later, Mr. Benjamin Koomson became the assistant choirmaster and Mr. I.K Mensah who later became a Reverend Minister also became the assistant organist. The choir was inaugurated by Rev. Lartey of the Bethel Society in Takoradi who was the Minister in charge of Freeman Society and Mr. M.K Afranie who was the resident Catechist in charge of the society. The choir was under the Sekondi Circuit until Takoradi gained autonomy from Sekondi and therefore became a member of the Takoradi Circuit Choir.

As the hears passed by, many people joined the choir as the church grew in numbers in the old Swiss building situated in the Kwesimintsim township.

At the Connexional conference in the Winneba District (now Diocese), in the late Seventies, the choir was adjudged one of the best society choirs in the Takoradi Circuit by the Association of Methodist Church Choirs, Ghana.

Since then, the choir has grown from grace to grace and we pray that it continues to be a beacon of hope for all people and to lighten the paths of all members to bring them to Christ through singing of our hymns with better understanding.

Amen.
